Chapter 10
Different interpretations of collaboration
How nature finds solutions
A strategy that ensures people retain individual ideas that do not converge into common agreement may seem bizarre until you stop to think how nature handles uncertainty, competition and the unexpected. It arranges for each individual in a species to have an unique combination of genes. Then, at each generation, a vast number of different solutions are thrown at the problems of survival and production in the form of individual variation. Nature doesn't know what the future holds, but, there is an in built strategy that makes sure that all contingencies are covered and even in the event of catastrophic change somewhere there will be some combination of genes that will be able to cope.
It is this conceptual model that should form the basis of a strategy in the uncertain environment of e-business.. The more simultaneous options being explored, the greater chance there will be for survival and success.
